Before you start

  • Make sure KlarVPN is installed on your Android device.

  • Sign in to your KlarVPN account before changing Auto-connect or Kill Switch settings.

  • Auto-connect requires an active KlarVPN subscription.

  • Keep an internet connection available while allowing VPN permission or changing Android VPN settings.

Android VPN Permission

KlarVPN needs Android permission to create a VPN connection. Without this permission, KlarVPN cannot route your traffic through the VPN tunnel.

1. Open KlarVPN and start the VPN setup or connection flow. When the Set Up Your VPN screen appears, tap OK.

Set Up Your VPN screen.

2. When Android asks whether KlarVPN can create a VPN connection, tap Always Allow.

Android VPN permission prompt.

3. After you allow the request, KlarVPN can finish creating the VPN tunnel and you can continue using the app normally.

Some Android versions may use slightly different wording, but the approval step is the same.

Allowing the permission completes the initial VPN setup.

Android Auto-connect

Auto-connect tells KlarVPN to reconnect to your last region shortly after Android finishes booting.

1. Open KlarVPN and tap Profile.

Profile tab.

2. Tap Auto-connect.

Auto-connect row in Profile.

3. Turn on When Android starts up.

Auto-connect before it is enabled.

4. Confirm that When Android starts up is enabled.

Auto-connect enabled.

How Auto-connect works

  • Auto-connect reconnects KlarVPN after your Android device starts up.

  • It reconnects to your last used region.

  • It is best-effort behavior managed by the app, not a system-enforced traffic block.

Android Kill Switch

On Android, the Kill Switch feature and the system settings Always-on VPN and Block All Connections Not Using VPN work together. For that reason, this section covers the full Kill Switch setup in one place.

Check Kill Switch status

1. Open KlarVPN and tap Profile.

Profile tab.

2. Tap Internet Kill Switch.

Internet Kill Switch row in Profile.

3. Review the Kill Switch screen. If Status shows Disabled, the system-level traffic block is not active.

Kill Switch status: Disabled.

4. If Status shows Partial, only one of the required Android settings is on. You need both settings below for full protection.

Kill Switch status: Partial.

5. When both required Android settings are enabled, Status shows Enabled.

Kill Switch status: Enabled.

Kill Switch status meanings

  • Disabled: Android is not currently enforcing a traffic block when the VPN is disconnected.

  • Partial: only one required Android setting is enabled.

  • Enabled: Android will block internet traffic whenever KlarVPN is not connected.

Enable full Kill Switch protection

Full Kill Switch protection requires two Android system settings: Stay Connected to VPN (Always-on VPN) and Block All Connections Not Using VPN. KlarVPN links you to these settings from the Kill Switch screen.

1. On the Kill Switch screen, tap Open Android VPN Settings.

Open Android VPN Settings from KlarVPN.

2. In Android VPN settings, open the KlarVPN VPN entry.

3. Turn on Stay Connected to VPN.

Always-on VPN settings before enabling.

4. Confirm that Stay Connected to VPN is enabled.

Stay Connected to VPN enabled.

5. Turn on Block All Connections Not Using VPN. If Android shows a warning, tap On to confirm.

Confirm Block All Connections Not Using VPN.

6. Confirm that both Android VPN protection toggles are enabled.

Both Android VPN protection toggles enabled.

7. Return to KlarVPN and confirm that Internet Kill Switch now shows Enabled.

Auto-connect vs. Kill Switch

  • Auto-connect tells the app to try reconnecting after boot or network changes.

  • Kill Switch is OS-enforced and blocks internet traffic whenever KlarVPN is not connected.

  • For full Kill Switch protection on Android, both Stay Connected to VPN and Block All Connections Not Using VPN must be turned on.

When to contact support

  • The Android VPN permission prompt never appears.

  • KlarVPN cannot create the VPN tunnel after you tap Always Allow.

  • The Kill Switch status stays Partial or Disabled after you enable both Android VPN toggles.

  • Auto-connect or Kill Switch does not behave as described in this article.
